Is there a proper name for people who can be your agent to try to get your product into retail stores or to sell your idea to a big company? If anyone knows, please let me know.
Thank you,

Some years back we came up with a new cat toy - Drag-A-Mouse (TM). Initially we took out several ads in cat magazines to get the ball rolling. Later we contacted a 'manufacturer's rep' who represented a number of businesses and he visited wholesalers/outlets to promote the products. When you GOOGLE "manufacturer's rep" there'll be a lot to look at. First, take a look at wikipedia's item -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manufacturers'_representative.
Another way to research can be to GOOGLE for the specific item(s) you will be selling. For example: "manufacturer's reps for kitchen accessories."
With regard to the comment about copyrighting your idea. An "idea" can not be copyrighted; but a "design" can. Our Drag-A-Mouse design is copyrighted, but the idea of making a leather cat toy with a cord to play with your cat is not.
Here is our copyright info: go to http://www.copyright.gov/records/, clik on 'Search the Catalog' and enter "Drag-A-Mouse." Copyright VA0000286339 will appear.
Try the website www.themogulmom.com in general I think it might have some good information for you. But specifically http://www.themogulmom.com/2011/05/get-your-product-in-stores/
I don't know the answer to your question but I will strongly suggest you copywrite your idea before sharing it with anyone.
