When I used to get stacks of resumes, I really wanted to see bold headings to identify different sections. When you first get them, you want to pull out the ones that are clear, concise and professional looking. And I really agree with Ray on language, especially if you are applying to a certain type of job. I will change my resume to reflect educational or social service depending on the position for which I'm applying. Similarly, when I look at applicants for a job where presentation or supervision are required, I look for key words that fit those skill sets.

Not good enough. White space is a important part of a resume. Send it my way, and I'll take a look if you want.

Good Morning Felix,

It is a bit hard to read this outline. I understand this is a draft, but keep in mind that when you create a resume you want to be sure it looks like someone would want to read it. A delicate balance between too many & not enough words & information.

Also a critical point of career searching & applying for roles is to incorporate the language listed in the job description you are targeting. Most if not all online sites use key word searches; if you don't have them you don't get looked at by a human. For example if you use "lead a group of 12" and the required competency lists "directed 12 employees" you may not get overlooked.

I would suggest you make a cleaner list of roles and dates. For example:

Naval Air Station Lake Hurst NJ Information & Technology / Help Desk Dec 2013 - Current
{bullet points}

Naval Air Station Lake Hurst NJ Production controller / customer support Aug - Dec 2013{bullet points}

Recruiting Station Jersey City, NJ Jun 2009 – Aug 2012
{bullet points}

Etc.

A great tool to help you list and translate the responsibilities and relative competencies from military to civilian language is the ACE Guide. You can search by both the courses (MCI's &/or resident schools) or occupations. I list the link below. If looking at the MOS check the 0369 & 0372 and remove the portions that don't apply to your pay grade.

Also you should start to network professionally if you have not already done so. There are a LOT of free sites like this that you can professionally connect with former Marines and perhaps organizations you want to target for employment.

Try LinkedIn. I personally would not use a profile here as a resume. I use this profile for career search as a way for recruiters to search and a lead to want to get my resume. Other than that it is to connect with people in the career field and/or organization I am targeting. Making connection within a company are great ways to get looked at even if there is not a posted position.

If you start a LinkedIn profile send me a request to connect: www.linkedin.com/in/rmartinelli1/
