Just curious how many veterans would like more training to understand small business formation, government contracting, a mentor who owns a business in your area of interest, much like the EBV program through Syracuse University. Rather than be absent from your family for 9 days, traveling to only 9 universities across the country, I am proposing an online classroom experience accessible for all veterans and mentorship with SME's in specific industries.

Do SCORE counselors understand process for Federal procurement/contracting or gaining accreditation as a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Business?
Hello! I am a SCORE Volunteer in Jacksonville, FL and I agree with Alan.
I also would encourage you to go to some networking groups in your area (Not BNI related, but local small groups that meet for breakfast or lunch) and ask them about training opportunities. SCORE is great and some of the chamber of Commerce events are also good. There are also independent training groups out there that are run by and geared towards small business owners. Check them out in your area.
Baren, There are two very good free or low cost places to learn about starting a small business, doing business with the government, etc. They are SCORE (www.score.org) with 400 chapters througout the US and the Business Development Centers associated with many community colleges. (www.sba.gov/sba-direct) Both offer free small business consulting and low cost workshops on the basics of starting and doing business.
SCORE offers on-line "Cybercounseling" by about 1/3 of their 1400 counselors with different areas of business if there is not a chapter in someone's area. Often, local volunteer and Cyberchapter counselors will co-counsel when other expertises are needed.
