I need to take photos of my products for my website. You know how we watch videos of an item rotating 360 degrees all on it's own to showcase it? I need something like that and I have no idea if there is a certain title or term, nor do I know where to find someone that can do this. I thought of contacting a university with a strong communications or photography department, but before I go calling people, I'd like some advice so I don't sound lost. Thanks in advance!

If you happen to have an old turntable lying around, I betcha you can achieve very similar results manually.
You will need a softbox/light tent to prevent unwanted highlights, and a lighting kit, e.g. XPRO 24"x 24" Studio Photography White Photo Light Tent - DigiTent - Dome - Cube - Box http://t.co/ddIajrS
Try googling for 'photography turntable'
Everything is covered pretty well in here although more recently we have seen an emergence of other manufacturers get into the 360 product photography space. Best bet is a google search for 360 product photography OR product photography turntable.
The other option - outside of a fully automated solution would be to consider a manual turntable. As Mark had poitned out above, this is something you can build yourself OR purchase for <$50. Here is a link to one that we had done some experimenting with: http://www.studiotent.com/360turntable_photo_turntable_3d_product_photography_object
Another consideration, should you decide to go the manual photography turntable route would be to work with a product photography software like this one here from iconasys: http://iconasys.com/shutter-stream-product-photography-applications/shutter-stream-software-for-360-product-photography/
This software should help you achieve the same efficiencies as the more expensive fully automated solutions.
You can use Movense ( https://www.movense.com/publisher/ ) App for taking 360 product photography. Movense is a 360 product photography software which works on your phone, tablet or DSLR camera. Simply, You can place your object on a turntable and use android or IOS app to capture, edit and share an interactive 360 degree spin, or use your own camera and our online editor.
Mark,
Thank you so much! I'll try it out.

I know it's an old post, but just came across it and thought that my input might still help. We have a quick guide on how to build a DIY 360 photography turntable yourself -
http://www.photogear360.com/content/8-diy-360-product-photography-turntable.
It's pretty simple then to create your own 360 views as long as you have a basic DSLR and a lighting kit as recomended above.
Thank you. I'll try those avenues.
My daughter gets some of her business from Craig's list - it is surprisingly useful. :)
You could also go to your local camera shop and ask them for a referral. That way, you will get people who are known to the local guys to be decent photographers.
Dali,
Sander said it all .. but in addition:
Go to craigslist and post what you want! What city do you live in? Honestly you may even want to do some research and see if it is something you can do on your own! At least to have a concept down for someone you’re trying to communicate it to. Or even go to one of the places that already have the product established, then ask the who does it and visit the company.. See how it’s done! I don’t think it’s too complicated.
This is awesome!! Thank you so much!!
