Looking for a few advisors to critique my resume and LinkedIn page.

Something seems off with my resume. I am having a hard time with integrating my military experience into my corporate experience due to coming on and off full-time military orders for the last few years due to GWOT mobilizations. Any advice would be great.

I am currently seeking opportunities in the Automotive, Oil & Gas, and Energy Industries. Specifically, Operations or Operations entry leading roles.

Another thing that is throwing me off in my search is understanding the Corporate structure and the level I should match my military leadership experience with.

Thank you in advance for your time. This website is such a great tool!

Regards,

Michael Stinfer

Michael - I suggest changing your LinkedIn photo to a headshot in professional civilian attire.

* Have you researched and considered joining local chapters of apics.org or ism.ws? They offer certifications, events, networking opportunities and possible mentoring. Reach out, introduce yourself and request assistance.

* Also, add your the URL to your LinkedIn profile to your ACP profile.

Michael, One of the great benefits of LinkedIn, which some people overlook, is to be recommended for your skills, not just list them. That being said, many people will not take the initiative to write a recommendation, simply because it doesn't occur to them. The best way to be recommended for your skills is to write recommendations for others. I would suggest that you spend some time looking over your LinkedIn contacts, finding some people that you can honestly recommend, and do it. Write about their contributions, their personality, their ability to get the job done, etc. Often, if someone likes what you've written about them, they will return the favor. Often prior to an interview, at least someone on the interview team will "check you out" on LinkedIn to see what others are saying about you.

Hi All,

Thank you for your notes and reaching out to me. Things are coming along and I have received some GREAT feedback so far, Mickeli. I am finding out to focus more on the skill aspect, rather than the task. After I correct a few things on my draft I will send it to all of you for added support.

Mickeli, I am just an average guy who enjoys a challenge but thank you very much. I'll connect with you after this post. Thanks for your support and look forward to hearing back from you.

Stormy, Thank you for taking the time to go to my LinkedIn profile. After reviewing it more and more, I think it is very bland and nothing truly stands out. Thanks for your time and look forward to your insight.

Amos, I will connect right after this posting. Thank you as well, it means a lot. Talk to you soon.

Nicholas, Thank you for your support and after corrections my resume will be in your inbox.

Janhvi, Thank you for your support and after corrections my resume will be in your inbox.

Michael, I will be glad to look at your resume. You can send it to lc9318@att.com. I don't use Linked in much, so I can not provide much help there but may be able to give you some tips on your resume. One tip I have found useful is to think about the skills used to complete the tasks. Most people think in terms of the tasks they do, but tasks don't tranfer easily to different jobs -- skills do transfer. Do your tasks require thing such as: time management, organization, planning, attention to detail, decision making,.. ? Include these types of skills in the resume, not the taks. Good luck!
