I'm a veteran looking for networking opportunities. What's the best types of networking opportunities to engage in?

Good advice from all above. I'd offer that it would be helpful to focus on the nature of the networking you want to do, in addition to the specific area/field. Do you want to network in order to look for a job, start a business, build an existing business, etc? Networking should be a reciprocal process, although giving/getting doesn't always happen on a close time scale. So while you'll be looking to satisfy your area of focus, everyone else is also thinking 'what have you done/or could do for me'.
Thanks for your service! Linked-In is a solid platform to start in. Not only can you build professional contacts but you can also be seen by key industry recruiters.
Carlos,
Thank you for your service.
The resources Caitlin provided are good. What is important is to know what is important in your field given what you want to do.
You noted your career choice as Marketing, Advertising and Communication which can be very different things as well as Public Relations which is your current position.
I would suggest that you start by choosing a focus such as PR and searching those people on this network and the professional associations and their Linkedin groups to better focus your efforts and give others a better grasp of how they may be able to assist you.
Good luck,
