I have 8 years before I can retire, I really would like to start a business maybe franchising, is there VA business loans available for me while I'm serving my enlistment ?

I also forgot to mention that I am not alone, my wife would be able to assist me with the start up or franchise opportunity

you can work through the franchisor to get financing options and discounts also -- and I know several of the third party financing have veteran discounts

good luck it is a good way to go but any business will take time and more energy than you think ' make sure that you set clear boundaries so your home life and business life do not become one

The VA has been chatting with SBA on the possibility of the GI Bill being used for establishing a business. Be sure to share your interest to help with moving the needle. Go for it!

The very first step is to write a business plan :

Money is plentiful for people who have a well written vetted plan.
