I would like to start a bowling alley and skate park. How would I go about doing it? Starting from scratch and help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Alfonzie, I think there are somewhat similar businesses. I think there is a location in Brooklyn, NY that has indoor biking, for example. This is encouraging, but the idea has been tested and may be successful.

Starting a business is very difficult, especially in a business that has tremendous risk for injuries. It requires an incredible attention to detail to minimize skating accidents in orderto get insured.

My suggestion is researching similar businesses. If something is close by (Chicago, for example) and you are able to relocate for a few months, try working at a skate park or bowling alley (there are definitely bowling alley's closer to home).

While it may seem tedious working for someone else, it is a great education. You will find out what works. You can then incorporate this into your business, rather than learning by trial-and-error. Furthermore, it is easier to get financing if you can demonstrate you know a lot about the business.

Best of luck!

This is a really cool idea!

It sounds like you have a vision of what you want this place to be. You can see it clearly in your mind but maybe you're struggling with the bit a lot of entrepreneurs struggle with - where do I even start?

My advice would be to start at the beginning. Get your vision down on paper. If you're a visual person, make a pin board and post everything that inspired you or will inspire you to make your project successful. If you're a literal person, try writing down your vision and be as descriptive as possible. Once you see your vision coming together, hopefully you're motivated enough to make the next hurdle.

Not sure what your financial situation is but if you're like most entrepreneurs, you're going to need funding. No one will fund your project if they can't envision your business as being successful or profitable, regardless of how passionate you are. You're going to need a business plan and there's a lot of advice online about how to create a business plan. This is the step where a lot of people give up on their dreams because it's not easy or quick. We lose interest when it starts getting rough or get distracted by life's less rewarding experiences.

If you make it this far, everything else will come together naturally. Your questions and the answers to those questions will become more specific and useful. Of course there will be challenges along the way but if you're doing something you truly love and believe in then stay dedicated and disciplined.

Never settle for mediocrity. Best of luck!
