I launched a new web site this month, my SEO rating are poor, in addition we do see a steady flow of opportunities but they are not returning the best revenue.

Phillip - we've found that the best way to develop great SEO - and experience a corresponding rise in the search rankings - is through answering your customers' questions on your website.

By creating great educational content, people searching for answers will start to find you more and more. I've written quite a bit about this on my website if you'd like to check it out. Or just Google "Teaching Based Marketing" and read the articles I've written. Just let me know if you have any questions. Good luck!

Hi Phillip,

Before you decide which tactics (SEO, PPC, etc.) to use, I suggest first quantitatively defining your goals (expressed as dollars).

There are two general approaches marketers take: (1) "bottom's up" - the resulting revenue is a result of the success/failure of the arbitrary tactics employed. I refer to this as "piloting in the fog". (2) "top-down" - where you first define the business goal ($) and then leverage readily available research tools to create ROI models for various channels so that you can craft a marketing plan that can hit your goals.

Your monthly revenue is basically this equation:

$$ = (Average Sales Price) * ((Number Visitors) * (Conversion Rate))
There are permutations to this equation for factors like lifetime value, for example.

I can guide you through this process if you're interested. Additionally, paid search will allow you to target a much larger list of keywords, and display advertising can be very affordable and enable you to remarket to thousands of visitors for as little as $.08/click.

Hi Phillip:
There are many aspects involved in attaining high search engine ranking. Most web designers don't understand that there are "two web sites"... the one the user views (which is just the skin) and the one the search engines see. The suggestion Spence offered is a good one, as that method provides fresh content and sets you up as a subject matter expert.

Contact me and I'll take a look if you would like. Jeff Conrad
