If you go down that route, check out the SCORE Vets Fast Start program. Get the business training they offer, but that's not why you need to check them out only. One of their corporate partners offer a SEO package for either free or at a good discount for 3 months, which in theory could be long enough for you to build revenues and additional content / SEO bait.

Its quite simple to start actually, but you have to set your budget in a smart way, since you will be owning a website that require hosting and domain fees.
But it is not that expensive to get started at all, some affiliate courses will help you cut the cost of launching your affiliate business and thus redirecting all the budget to generating traffic for example and play on the ROI.
Here is one affiliate marketing course that can pretty much get you started http://affset.com

Hi buddy
I have been doing affiliate marketing for the past 9 years.

It's a great way to earn some income ,and its very simple to do if you get the right info.

The key to making it work are:
Finding a market who want to solve a problem.
Send traffic to the website
Convert those visitors to customers.

Getting and finding a product is easy. It's getting traffic that most people stumble on.

Let me know if you want me to go more in detail.

Cheers

I know someone that does that, but he also has a blog. So what he does is he positions his blog through SEO to be one of the top searches that people are looking for. Then he seeks out various businesses that do affiliate marketing. He sets up his account with them and then adds the appropriate link to his blog site.

So a possible option is having your own blog site to which you can drive traffic, and being affiliated with companies that people will have interest in checking out. In addition to that, if you are interested in marketing for other companies, you can also set yourself up as a marketer of different companies. In doing this, you will want to sell yourself to companies as to why they should use you to market their products instead of who and/or what they are already using.

There are a variety of approaches and business models, HJ.

There's affiliate marketing, goods, e-products, even brick-and-mortar businesses sell online.
I've used http://goo.gl/vDzPE to good effect in the past--being completely online wasn't my cup of tea, but it may suit those who do want a home-based business or want to expand with their own business or branch out with some part-time enterprises.

Whichever you're interested in doing, be sure to research the benefits and costs of any approach.

All the Best!

HJ,

There are many opportunities out there you just have to be selective. I do fund-raising for churches, schools, sports groups, etc that also helps veterans by donating profits to a nonprofit that helps them find employment. I advertise through craigslist and my website: www.Uraisefunds.com.

If you want to get involved in affiliate marketing in a big way, I have some sources for an affiliate system that provides an email autoresponder, web hosting, video hosting, blogging platform, and additional tools and can provide you with affiliate products to market to get you an affiliate marketing stream started. It is fairly inexpensive to get started and training is provided. It helps you build a list of clients to whom you can continue marketing other affiliate products or even your own.

I also got an invitation yesterday for an affiliate start up that will be launching at the end of August. If you have any interest in any of the above send me a private message. In any case, good luck.

I've had my own home-based business for some time. One of the aspects is being able to have your own web site. There are six streams of income available. Take a look at two of my sites: www.syn-lubes.com and www.4topoil.com. Both have sections on having your own business that can generate over time a handsome income. An additional site is
www.natural-fertilizers.com.
