Question about veteran owned small business

Veteran

Brock Kowske Chicago , IL

I am currently in the Army National Guard and have been for three years. I have never been deployed and the only times I have been activated are for training purposes (basic training, OCS, IBOLC). I know I don't technically qualify for veteran status with the VA, but I was wondering if there were any programs or groups I am qualified for that would help me in starting my new small business and acquiring new clients. Thank you.

Brock, I concur that the Univ of Syracuse program is valid starting point. They have helped a lot of vets get going in entrepreneurial projects. What I am working on is showing vets about business brokerage and ownership because over the next 5 to 10 years a lot of businesses will be on market for sale. Brock, there is one program that you might find helpful. It is called Boots2Business. It is generally run locally by the TAP office on an Army or Air Force base. I am not sure if it is connected with the Navy in any way. The program runs a two-day seminar that covers all the basics of starting a small business. Syracuse University got the program started, so if nothing else, you might go to their web site and see who is doing it locally for you. Usually the local office of the SBA is involved with the program, too, so they might also be able to help you find where to participate locally.
