I am not sure how to structure my resume for a Senior Executive Service position with the federal government.

The key to writing is to know your subject. -http://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/senior-executive-service/reference-materials/guidetosesquals_2012.pdf
"I am already in a good career position but am stuck in that role because I can not seem to get to the next level."
In this case its essential to look at your position from all angles, not simply professionally but from a personal perspective and develop an outline.Whats holding you back?
A resume is the tool that gets your foot in the door but it's essential to know what doors you want to open, how to open them and why.Start by listing 5 strengths, 5 weaknesses, 5 accomplishments and 5 goals, prioritizing top to bottom. Then compare this list to your existing resume. Do you see your self where you want to be?
Do your research! Employers see you and will promote you when and where it suits their needs. Individuals holding an SES position, must demonstrate they possess Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) when applying. The ECQs define the competencies needed to build a federal corporate culture that drives for results, serves customers, and builds successful teams, coalitions within and outside the organization. The ECQs are required for entry to the SES and are used by many departments and agencies in selection, performance management, and leadership development for executive positions.
Examine a person who holds the position you want to possess. What qualities, experience, or skill does that person bring to the employers table and how can you improve upon that?
Once you have an honest outline you can begin the editing process. Your resume should contain: a brief profile, your education, your skill set and experience, highlighting your RELEVANT accomplishments. Keep it simple and contained to one page (when applicable ) as typically your resume will receive a review of 15-30 seconds
Resumes can be tricky in the "wow" department but as a Marine and Mater Sergeant you certainly have the wow factor. I would be happy to help, my services for your service! I will need a copy of your current resume and completed outline. I would also need to conduct an intro and exit interview to be sure your needs are met.

Top, I am not an expert in the federal government, but I have experience as a Marine Sgt. and as an HR person who have hired over a thousand people I think I may be able to help.
The best advice I have, resume wise, is to have a long resume where you take each qualification/requirement/duty they have and you specifcally mention how you meet those. Each position you apply to you add a section for that req. and then as you continue to apply all you have to do is delete the irrelevant info.
If you want you can email me your resume and a link to the position you're interested in and I can work some specific examples and such. Best of luck!

Hi Robert - If you would like to send me your your information or what you have for a currently resume I can try and help you structure it appropriately.
