Hello I'm having a hard time finding internship or apprenticeship mainly because I don't have a degree. If anyone can point me in the right direction I will greatly appreciated it. I'm looking in the NC VA and MD area.

Keil,
Hopefully you followed up with the unions that cover the work you have done, there are also professional associations for many fields that provide ongoing training and have job boards.
As for the clerk position, you wouldn't be looking for an internship unless you were in an academic program, you have experience look for the job you want.
Check out the resources on this website, there are many HR people in your geographic area.
Remember, tailoring your resume to the position will help to get that interview.
Good luck,
Keil, I'm going to come at your question a little differently, because I too do not have a degree.
What I do have is over 20 years experience with promotions based on on-the-job learning on the fly. Here is what I suggest: first, write down your present experience like this: answer phones; splice wires; drive trucks; supervise construction; landscape maintenance; coding. This might sound simplistic, but once you do it, you know what you have to offer an employer. Second, use those skills as keywords on any of the internet job sites to find job openings where internships and/or apprenticeships are offered. Very often companies want employees who have general experience (like I listed), because they want to train employees to their specific tasks. Also, apply for school in your area of job interest. That way you have both entry level experience to offer and the commitment to excel through completion of your schooling. I attended college classes for every new job opportunity that came my way until ultimately I had the experience to rise above the need for a degree. Good luck!
Keil, Will's advice is spot on. Be persistent and go where where the opportunities are.

Keil,
If you were involved in an academic program, an internship might be appropriate. What I'd suggest is establishing a profile on Helmets to Hardhats https://www.helmetstohardhats.org/. This site can connect you with all the local unions who sponsor the apprenticeships you are seeking.
Best Regards,
Will
