I'm looking for one-on-one assistance with spiffing up my LinkedIn profile, and maybe tying it to separate website. I desire to have something out there to showcase skills, education, and experience to foster better networking and future job searches.
I'm proceeding on the following, which is a summary from an article written by a guy whom I respect well:
1. Having the credential isn't enough because the signaling value of a credential (e.g., a degree) is no longer enough. One must show one's work rather than talk about it. One must get skllls instead of credentials.
2. The ultimate purpose of skills is to profitably solve problems. Problem-solving has become a cliché of sorts, and so we need to ask, what set of skills is required to profitably solve problems?
The set of necessary skills divides into two categories: hard skills in specific technologies and crafts and soft skills that enable ownership of tasks and projects, systematic application of creativity and critical thinking, and professional standards of collaboration and conduct.
3. Many skills should be essential parts of human and social capital. The ultimate purpose of education is to learn how to acquire human and social capital, and the ultimate purpose of human and social capital is mastery of the skills needed to profitably solve problems.
Problem-solving and accountability have been generalized to the point that we need to specify what they actually mean. That means taking ownership of tasks and projects: i.e. accepting sole responsibility in the same manner as an owner.
4. The soft skills of collaboration, adaptability, creativity, entrepreneurism, and professional accountability are core skills in every sector of the emerging economy.
Soft skills are not learned by osmosis or magic; they must be learned as systematically as hard skills.
5. The skills needed to establish and maintain a livelihood in the emerging economy are the abilities to:
a. Learn challenging new material over one’s entire productive life
b. Creatively apply newly-mastered knowledge and skills to a variety of fields
c. Be adaptable in all work environments
d. Apply a full spectrum of entrepreneurial skills to any task
e. Work collaboratively and effectively with others, both in person and remotely
f. Be professional, responsible and accountable in all work environments
g. Continually build human and social capital
h. Possess a practical working knowledge of financial and project management
I want to apply all of these to my LinkedIn and separate site.

Hi Timothy -
LinkedIn profile, and indeed websites, operate off the same principle that resume writing espouses : you get 5 seconds worth of the reader's attention to convince the reader to continue for the next 15 seconds.
If what you display on your LinkedIn profile or your website is not attractive enough to keep the reader's momentum and attention span, then your presentation is not convincing enough.
The points you listed are great points : tell me the headline sentence you want to put on your LinkedIn profile ? Remember, once I read the first sentence, I should be motivated to read what comes next. But if I am unresolved to continue after the first sentence, then what comes after the first sentence wont matter much.
So what is your first sentence ?

I'm not a guru, but I work with a lot of job seekers. I'd be happy to take a look, but none of your personal information is public. Start by getting some basic information public. Then take John's advice about standing out. Let me know if you'd like me to take a look once you've gotten everything public. If you'd like to connect, my profile is: https://www.linkedin.com/in/krystalyates
You're welcome to look at my own LinkedIn profile. My name is June R Massoud.
I have an All-Star Profile. Look at it and then get back to me if you have questions. Maybe you could use a similar format.
Best,
June
