Thank you for your service Mr. Martinez.
I have hired employees for the last 45 years.
Resumes help but not much. They put you in the same pile as everyone else. Not where you should be.
Spend your time research the aviation companies in your area that may need help.
Get names of the executive staffs. Find out of what they do and how. Determine if you have skills that will work for them. Make some phone calls to employees further down the food chain. Office and/or production staff. Build a relationship with someone on the inside for a few weeks. Ask for their help to determine where in the industry you might fit in. Not necessarily at their company.
I always hired employees based on their knowledge of my business and their ability to articulate how they thought they could help the company, solve problems and make my job easier. If you take an interest in them, they will take an interest in you. Don't ask about pay, benefits or any of that crap. If they are interested in you, they will bring it up. If they do it, they are interested in your reaction. Starting pay means nothing if you plan to excell at your job and advance.
Feel free to email me.

Richard,
Thank You for your service and welcome to the private sector.

You will need a resume, period. It does not matter if you are networking or answering ads. The reasons you need one are:
-If you are networking, sooner or later someone will say: "Send me your resume..."
-Must have it to apply for jobs on-line
-Can't imagine not having one when you go to a job fair
-Most importantly, the writing of your resume forces you to tell your story in a brief, objective and professional way that not only includes what you have done (helicopters), but what your accomplishments were, these tell people much more. ("Maintained helicopters" is one thing. "Maintained a fleet of 50 helicopters with a readiness percentage of 98%" tells me much more.)

Please feel free to send my your resume and I'll take a look. When I do this, I always talk with the person as well. It's very common that during the conversation, some interesting/noteworthy information comes out that belongs on your resume.

My e-mail is: connectionscliff@gmail.com

Regards,
Cliff
