My wife has a startup business in promotional products and will help her BUT we will need a steady income to move on as I transition out of the military. I would need help in reviewing my resume and LinkedIn profile to land me a job as Career Counselor in a University.

Tony, you might consider the University of Texas at Austin, and their FORD career center in their business college, the McCombs School of Business. Austin is a big college town as well as the Capitol of Texas. Many who visit here choose to stay. Many thanks for your years of service. -- Paul
I am happy to review your resume or linked in profile.
Just email me, kmtama@gmail.com.
Thanks!

Tony,
* Interact and provide feedback. Veterans who participate and intact are more likely to achieve their goals. You need to own your transition, and you need to serve as your own case manager.
* when you introduce yourself, include your skills and qualifications. I viewed your profile and see that you are working on your PhD. You want to let people know your skills sand qualifications , and the benefits you offer, upfront and as soon as possible
* Here is a practical exercise that will take work on your part. Study these job postings. Then perform a "gap analysis" of your current skills and qualifications compared to what these jobs require.

* What are your qualifications, and have you explore whether certifications might be helpful, or is a PhD adequate? The organizations that issue such certifications might also provide mentoring and networking opportunities.
* NCDA is an organization that all professions involved in the career development and mentoring and career counseling "space" should consider joining. Consider earning a certification, and research similar organizations. NICAD may have local chapters - let us know what you find.

Hi Tony,
Thanks for your service and Go Navy!
The Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex is rich in institutes of higher education and is a wonderful, affordable city that promotes entrepreneurship. I wish you and your wife the best with your startup.
For this conversation, I would not include your wife's business aspirations, as it leads the reader to infer that you will be leaving as soon as your wife's business takes off. That may or may not be true, but it doesn't promote your personal job search.
Best regards,
Susan
Thanks Paul I will check the site.
Tom, I will take your advice and visited indeed again (I had an account) and thanks for solid advice.
Susan, thanks for your advice. I will not mention my wife's business and will also search the Texas metroplex, seems promising to move to Texas.
Katie, thank you for your offer and I will send you a PM with my resume. Thanks again in advance.
To all THANKS for taking your time and giving advice. I hope to connect with you and I hope you can give me some feedback also on my LinkedIn Profile. Been applying for jobs for career counseling or adjunct teaching for over 6 months now BUT so far only got 1 interview. I may need to revise my resume: http://www.linkedin.com/in/tonyastro
