Veteran

Brenda Anderson Gillette , WY

I have been looking for jobs in the WA area as a Health Educator and cannot locate anything. If anyone has any ideas where to look for this type of career, I am also working on my Master's degree in the Public Health field.

Brenda, As to health education. I know that in the academic field in one wants to be a teacher, most states require one having, in additon to their special degree, teaching credentials.

With the health care act coming into reality, it should open up many opportunities for someone who has the training and credentials that you have.

* Take full advantage of your current school's and your undergraduate college's career planning centers and alumni resources. They should be able to assist you in developing a written career development and job search plan. They should be one of you primary sources of career planning an job-search assistance. They took your dollars, they really do owe it to you. They have the resources to hire professionally trained career counselors, resume writers, etc.

Hi Brenda. I am completing a Master in Public and I have a background just like yours.
Stay active in the field of health so you could sharpen you knowledge and develop more skills. Do not overlook volunteering opportunities in your local area. The YMCA, the public health town office could be a good start in addition to several NGOs that are operating in your area.
Public health has 5 core areas including Policy and Management sciences, Biostats, Epidemiology, Environmental Health and Community health.
So what would like to concentrate on?
Nowadays public health is evolving and involves a variety of other sciences. In my case, I am interested in blending public health and bringing best practices and innovations in the field so people could have a better life in a cost efficient manner. So I am studying also business.

Several universities have a public health certificate that you could complete online in 12 months. This can help you getting your feet wet and pursue a full degree later.
I am hopeful this information helps. Feel free to ask more questions if you have.
Thank you.
Ghis.

Brenda,
Thank you for your service. I am not familiar with the Health Care field, but if you take Samantha's advice and locate companies who are hiring, I suggest you check them out on the Linked In site. Many companies post openings on Linked In.
Let me know of this helps.
Good luck.
