Fantastic! VCTP Syracuse certainly seems like a great program.

I'm going towards the A+ certificate. When I went to the site, it wanted me to select one certificate program, which I did select. However, I will try and select other programs and see what they will say. Also, I have contacted the admissions coordinator via phone and left a message.

Ijeoma,
What sorts of course do you wish to take?

Have you researched the training for Operations and IT oriented certifications that VCTP Syracuse offers to post 9/11 Veterans, 100% free of charge, no GIB Bill benefit utilized.? (see my post above)

Speak wit a guidance counselor at VCTP Syracuse and see if any of their programs or certifications might help.

See my earlier post above where I list action items you can take.

@Greg, I have checked out the NPower in the NYC. They only assist those under the age of 25. In Dallas, they assist veterans. However, I do not have relatives living in Dallas. If I did, I would have relocated to Dallas and start taking those courses.

Ijeoma,

Reach out to NPower. They are a non-profit firm based in NY. In Dallas, they offer a program known as the Technology Service Corps. It is a free 22 week program for Veterans focused on developing IT skills. The first 15 weeks are dedicated to getting a CISCO A+ Certification. This work is followed by a 7 week paid internship in a non-profit corporation or a forture 500 company.

Ijeoma, Thank you for serving our country.

Tom is right on the money. You need to secure the job first, then if it's a job that requires a security clearance, you will be asked to go through the screening process. As Tom suggests, there are a number of things you can do to prepare or that day when it arrives.

You have made a good choice in pursuing MS Certification. While you are doing this, I urge you to begin investigate the art of scripting (Shell, Perl and Python). Having a jump on these skills will only make you a more valuable Certified Network Engineer.
It will also open up other doors in the field of Software Engineering and Development.

Ijeoma,
A few action items.
* post the URL of your LinkedIn profile on you acp-advisornet profile

* ask for a review of your resume and LInkedIN profile here on this site. Work "one-one-one" with an advisor to craft a top-notch resume and LI profile. Prominently list certifications you have earned, recommendations and endorsements, etc.

* request a mentor from ACP

* speak wit a guidance counselor at VCTP Syracuse and see if any of their programs or certifications might help

* This may take weeks or months. Join a local Toastmasters.org chapter, and ask for help with your "elevator speech". On your own and with a mentor, craft 3 "elevator speeches".
1) the speech you can deliver today
2) the speech you want to be able to deliver in 3-6 months
3) the speech you want to deliver in 5 years

Yes, I have been utilizing my school's career services. I do not have an ACP mentor. I have some Microsoft certifications. However, I'm still a novice in IT. I'm concentrating in networking.

Ijeoma,
To get a security clearance, you'll likely first need to obtain a job or job offer.
