I want a career in law enforcement and security
Answers
I’d suggest that you network at the target company or industry. Use LinkedIn to find people already working there and reach out to them. Ask them the process they used to get hired and ask them to help you navigate the hiring process and if they are willing, ask them to submit you as a referral. These activities require much more time on your part but in my opinion would greatly increase your chances for success. Good luck!
Hi Andre,
What type of career in law enforcement are you interested in? That is a big pond to swim in. Do you want to stay away from traveling across the country? Working internationally?
Have you looked into applying to your local PDs? What type of degree program are you pursuing? What type of experience do you bring from the military to the table? With more details we can connect you with the right mentor. That said look into the ACP 1-on-1 mentorship as well. Let me know if there's any questions I can answer for you and let us know about those questions I asked. We need details to set you up for success.
Good luck!
Jose
Hi Andre, I take it you have already took advantage or at least explored ACP's one-on-one mentorship program?
I will need to get with several of my colleagues and possibly my friends from back home. At least one individual transitioned from Army MP to become both US Customs and Deputy Sheriff. It will take a little time to track down. My grandfather went from Army Air Corp MP into State Police.
There are various programs out there designed for military transition to civilian life without a specific career specified.
One is the Hiring of Heroes: https://www.hiringourheroes.org/fellowships/. It provides fellowships, 12 week for active and 6 week for spouses. Training and skills for civilian work force.
There are also many veterans resource groups with many companies. They all can provide insights into specific communities of interest.
Andre,
