Most interviews ask the question, "Tell me about yourself?" How do you prepare your story without just summarizing the past six-plus years into a one minute blitz?
Answers
On the tell me about yourself, your have to touch on three points.
1) Past experience as it relate to the current position
2) Focus on your strength and abilities and support with examples
3) Highlight your personality that apply to the role
Thank you for your service. I appreciate it.
Hi Jarad, I see this question as an opportunity to blend your interests, skills and experience into a brief narrative as to why they should hire you. Make it short, no more than 2 minutes, and tailor it to what they do. Underlying it all should be: how who/what you are can add value and further company goals. Let me know if I can assist further.
Hi Jarad - Thank you for your service. I'd like to also suggest: keeping in mind that the interviewer may or may not have a military background. Therefore, articulating military experience to someone who may not have a military background should be considered as well.
In support of what Will said, I would add that you need to think about what you can do for the company for whom you are interested in working. If you understand the roles and responsibilities for which you are applying, think about your experiences relative to those roles and responsibilities and frame your response accordingly.
Jarad, you have received two good responses, but if you're still uncertain, and want to talk about your concerns, I'd be happy to set up a time for a phone discussion to discuss interviewing. You can reach me at gbaccetti@hotmail.com.
