How do I translate my skills as a Legislative Aide to a federal position?

Veteran

Deaundra Jackson Rex , GA

I realize that the position I ultimately get may not be a legislative one but how can I optimize what skills were gained in those 3 years on my resume? Soft skills to hard skills?

Hi Deaundra,
Thanks for reaching out. That is a great question. You have acquired a lot of great skills from your time as a Legislative Aide that can be used when applying for federal positions. For example; you can use things like Coordinating meetings, assisting with the drafting of speeches, press releases and legislation, conducting and summarizing legal research, researching studies and constituent surveys, and speaking with constituents and solving problems, etc.
I would suggest when researching these federal positions, scan them for keywords that might be related to the skills you use at your position as a Legislative Aide. Also, this a great tool for matching your resume with a job listing https://www.jobscan.co/ You can tweak your resume based on the percentage your skills match the listing. Hopefully, this is a helpful start.
