I have more details but basically there are areas of concern, areas like maintaining veteran cemeteries, which are getting worse each year, or another area like assisting area veterans by providing them needed furniture or essential items delivered. Other areas are financial assistance.
Should I go through the process of creating a non profit, which I no little about, or continue to connect with area veteran groups?

I would reach out to your local AmVets, American Legion, VFW posts for some tips. A lot of those posts already do fundraisers, and probably have to connections to people in the area that can help (business owners, assembly men/women, etc.) I actually met by assembly men by connecting with the local AmVets post which really helped for visibility. I also suggest that you reach out to the Veterans Business Outreach Center that covers Pennsylvania - https://cbponline.org/who-serve/veterans/. They are a great resource and should be able to help you explore what is involved in establishing a nonprofit. Good luck and thank you for supporting our veterans.
I suggest that you do both. Existing groups can provide opportunities to help now and there might be people in those groups that can help you learn about starting a non profit. Best of luck to you.
