Many transitioning military are experienced professionals with various skills, but they may not necessarily have any technical training, degrees/certifications, or experience directly related to the energy industry. How do people like this fit into BP?
Answers
Hi Micah. I manage our Military Placement Program for BP's Trading & Shipping team in Chicago. Neither of the participants brought on board last year (2019) had experience in the energy industry. However, we looked at those transferrable skills, that David's mentioned as we decided on the best fit for the roles. Hope that helps!
Micah,
You have a lot of skills that are transferable but will not necessarily have the same names. Obviously you are not a Petroleum engineer or anything like that, but you have had experience in Learning and Development, Project management, Competence, working in an Operations center, information management, data management, the list goes on. BP is a very large organization that employs a lot of people in different fields. However, there is a slow down in hiring based on the current economic environment. Keep an eye on the BP careers website and look at the other Oil Majors like Shell, Exxon Mobil, Total, etc.. Best of luck.
Dave
