I am on terminal leave for retirement from the Air Force and am looking for work in the Omaha or Lincoln, NE area. Any tips, leads, hints, etc, would be greatly appreciated.

You got good responses from those above, much of what I would echo. I also was going to mention the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD). Additionally, you can also reach out to local chapters of Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM). In addition, there are a number of great companies in Omaha where you could try to make some introductions, see if they are willing to let you shadow them on the job, work as an independent contractor on a project as a way to demonstarte your skills.

I'd suggest you connect up with American Society for Training and Development's local chapter in Omaha. Their members are usually either corporate trainers or independent training consultants. I am sure they would welcome your participation in their group and they would be an important source for leads, networking, etc. See www.astd.org . The site also has a "job bank" that may be useful to you.

I saw your profile and you have an incredible amount of training/teaching experience. Cyber security is in demand at most universities. However, most universities require at least a masters to be an adjunct professor but community colleges don't. Going after an adjunct position at a community college makes for a nice part-time transition and the ability to really build networks.
I see most transitioning vets usually take a position and then move on within a year. Selecting the right transitioning job and industry is key to making the most out finding your post-service passion.
