Vanessa, thank you for your service. I will be happy to help if working long distance is okay with you—I live in New Jersey. This transition to your next career provides a great opportunity to examine your interests before seeking a position—basically what type of work excites you? You mentioned "management," but digging deeper to examine what type work you would feel excited about managing, or in what industry can greatly increase your chances for a satisfying next job and career.
If you would like to explore our working together why don't you email a summary of your military experiences along with comments about those you most enjoyed. Also if you've thought about the above issues include your early ideas. My email address is billnobles@optonline.net.
After that "introduction" we can talk by phone to discuss next steps.
Regards, Bill
P.S. This Syracuse University report can help identify strengths you have developed in the service which the private sector values, and possibly areas of management that interest you.

Vanessa, let me start by saying thank you for your service to our country. Lets start with your resume. Your resume is not an autobiography. Most Human Resource people or managers looking for employees go through a screening process to eliminate those they do not believe are qualified to handle the position. Obviously, it is important that you avoid pitfalls that place you in that category. Spelling and grammatical errors disqualify applicants, so make sure words are spelled properly and sentences are grammatically correct. It is imperative that you sell yourself. Education, experience and family circumstances are all key areas that should be addressed. To sell and distinguish yourself, after your personal information, start selling by listing the qualities, characteristics, education, accomplishments or experience that you feel is your primary asset. Cut down on job duties, avoid repeating yourself, edit unnecessary words and customize your resume for the job you are applying for. I think your leadership ability and your commitment to projects that you believe in are strong attributes that should be stressed. Head-hunters that specialize in your field should be contacted. Websites of large companies post jobs and should be used in your search. Please contact me at 813-470-8556 or by email at mfconvey@gmail.com, if you have any questions. Good luck

Vanessa,

In addition to Bills offer, I also would be glad to assist. I transitioned from active duty as a Capt several years ago so I understand some of the issues you may be experiencing. If you would like, I would be glad to review your resume and discuss in greater detail what your experiences are and what potential skills are transferable to the civilian market.

If you are available, here is a opportunity to help get your feet wet (so to speak) in the interviewing department. My company, HP, is having a hiring event for its United States Public Sector (USPS) section of its Enterprise Services division. To assist you even more, HP has an internal Veterans Employee Resource Network (VERN) which aids HP employees who are veterans of the US armed forces.

Here is a blurb from the event to be held on the 21 of March at our Herndon facility.

While HP is definitely “tech” heavy, we always need sharp individuals from all professional walks, to include management. If you have the time, this would be a great opportunity to see what a career fair type environment is like.
