Programs, which usually seemed varied State to State, for veterans to get involved in farming or ranching, are tough to find. Suggestions, especially for Montana.

Look up the Farmers Veterans Coalition. Also, look for the local USDA, land conservation to find what' available.
The community college in Walla Walla, WA has a strong relationship with the USDA and the local farming community. My point is, maybe reaching out to a local school with an ag program to find individuals to connect with may lead you to the answers you need for your area.
