Certified Home Inspector career

Veteran

Andrew Davenport Gainesville , GA

I live in the north Georgia area and want to become a certified home inspector. I would love to contract for FEMA to inspect properties after natural disasters. Any tips, help or advice is welcomed.

There are two options I would recommend:
1) Follow the directions provided on the homeinspector.org link and pursue the career as an indpendent business.
2) Look into one of the home inspection franchise opportunities that can provide some advantages like: a veteran's discount on the franchise fee, full training and certification, tools and support staff on day one plus a proven system to follow.

Whichever way you decide to go, one thing you will discover is that your business will largely come from referrals and relationships that you develop. If you enjoy meeting people and networking, then you will be successful.

I hope you find this helpful. If you would like to look into what franchise opportunities are available, I will be happy to help. My services are at no cost to you.

Great advice from Tyrone and Gary. In addition I would recommend you get certified in radon, asbestos, and meth testing since many lenders are starting to require these tests. The most important thing you need to do is make a written plan that gives you a detailed map to your goal along with costs at each milestone and completion. Look for reputable accreditation associations you can join that will provide additional ongoing training and certification. Get to know commercial and residential real estate professionals. Print up some professional looking business cards and hit the road! Be positive. You have a lot to offer as a veteran! Be strong and confident! It takes time to build your company so again you need a good written plan to achieve you goals. You WILL get there if you have the personal drive and passion to do whatever it takes to make it. Written plan is the key. Remember we are here to help...a wise king has many counselors. Good luck soldier.
