Background:
Experience: 2 classes until Masters in Counseling 2016
Goal: Entry level position that leads to LPC
Previous experience: 7 years customer service and administrative roles
I am a US Navy veteran looking for contacts or job leads for nonprofit agencies that are looking to hire provisional licensed counselors in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area. I have researched online and found many jobs require a LPC license or 2 years of post master experience and a masters degree. I understand that this may be for legal, professional or personal purposes/ preferences, however, I have reached out to some contacts via different methods by phone, email and in person and have received little to no responses.
Question:
Please advise on the next course of action.
Answers
I was a volunteer at Jewish Family Services in Denver. They had councelors, protected workshop and a food pantry. Try Jewish Family Services in Dallas/Ft. Worth. please note: this group is open to all....while at Denver the clients included all races and religions.
Foremost...thank you for your service.
The NFPs with which I'm affiliated in Dallas don't have onsite counselors...but a group I support financially might: LEGACY COUNSELING SERVICES. Look online for Exec. Dir. name...send an inquiry...and mention that one of their 'benefactors' Barron Evans referred you. Not sure what good it will do, but worth a try. GOOD LUCK!
Isaac,
I recommend checking with these agencies to ensure you are on the right path to obtain valid license and certifications. Hiring managers in professional service fields will use these sites to verify any claimed credentials. In many states, claiming a false credential is punishable by sate law as well as being unethical.
National Board of Certified Counselors
American Counseling Association
Mental Health Veterans Administration
Center for Credentialing and Education
and you asked about Texas
Texas Department of State Health Services
These sites are also useful for verifying a mentor's credentials.
Good Luck!
