Hello Keith --

Just first seeing your question from November '15. . . I've been in commercial real estate since 1982. Some thoughts:

1. Check with the Georgia state level real estate board; every state has one. They'll help you with how to get a sales license -- and eventually a broker's license if you want one. They may also be able to identify real estate companies based in Atlanta, though the Internet is a good source for that.

2. You'll also be obligated to an educational requirement for your license. Courses are given in every state, and open to everyone. They're often just a couple of days. While in class, make a point of meeting everyone there: you'll be surprised at how many experienced people you'll meet. Use this as a networking opportunity to identify potential companies that might employ you.

3. Most real estate sales offices are always looking for people, whether or not they're hiring. It's cold calling, but you should try them: you can literally walk in and ask to speak with the boss. Particularly if you've started your educational and licensing process, you might just score some interviews.

4. LinkedIn is also a good opportunity to connect with real estate professionals.

If you have any further questions as you go down the road, please feel free to contact me via ACP AdvisorNet, or directly at jeremy@theserwercompany.com.

And good luck,

Hi Keith,
Boston University as well as many other schools offer degrees in commercial and residential real estate. Some offer on line courses. These can open doors to real estate sales, development t or investing.

Real estae is a giant lifetime opportunity. What are your current stengths? Where do you want to start, sales, marketing, working directly with people( tenants/leasing) development, going to cities and towns gathering information for purchasing real estate.Way to many opportunities to list. I suggest you take time to review jobs posted on various web sites listed under real estate and look at the descriptions on various opportunities and then be realistic on the ones you you feel might suit you and your background and find out more about what each of these entails.
