I would like to know best way to get into a career in wealth management is MBA best route? Or certifications? Which companies offer best training programs for veterans? I value building relationships and always had interest in finance. Appreciate any advice on how to go forward

I agree with Chris Elwood. An MBA can be a great education, but the certification most useful to someone interested in providing financial advice is the CFP - Certified Financial Planner. (www.cfp.net) The program is not a cakewalk, but provides a great foundation. If you are interested in becoming a financial analyst, the CFA designation is the way to go. Chartered Financial Analyst. John,

The MBA can help but for Wealth Management as a civilian it is not an end all degree. Pursuing that career field is more about your own personal drive coupled with sales acumen. Like Justus pointed out, Merrill is a good firm. Many others exist that will allow you to transition while building your own 'business'. EJ (Edward Jones) offers a great package for both training and transitioning into whatever area of the country that you would like to be in. Most of the time if you simply reach out to a local WM with any firm they will be more than happy to help you. I only mention EJ since they tried vetting me two years ago, and I currently have accounts with them! Best of luck in your transition and thank you for your service!

John- I have a contact in WM at Merrill that is looking to take an ambitious veteran under his wing. Send me a note with your contact information and let's chat.
