Can anyone share their experience with equity research?

Veteran

Trent Mason

I'm interested in learning more about equity research. Is there anyone out there who has worked in the field or know someone who has that would be willing to share their experience with me? Thanks!

I worked at Morgan Stanley, in the Investment Banking Division, where we interacted with Equity Research. I knew and know a number of folks in this space if you'd like to speak with them. I'll add to Arnie's commentary by saying it's a bit of a lonely field in that to become an expert, you need to immerse yourself without the company of others. If you'd like to have a preliminary call, please let me know.

I was an executive of an asset mgt. firm whose investment process was built around equity researchers or analysts. Typically, they have MBA's. They become experts on a few industries. Occasionally, one leaves the asset mgt. field to use his or her expertise directly in the industry which they have learned so much about. You should know that some believe that the expertise of the analyst can be replaced by quantitative techniques (computer programs).
