I will be transitioning out of the military and trying to find good companies who offer Apprenticeships in construction field. Or any kind of advice anyone can give! It would be nice to be in the New Jersey area, but I will do whatever I have to do for a job and to have a successful career, so anywhere there is an opportunity for me I will try!

contact some union halls (LOCAL offices). some unions have programs for exactly what you seek.
Gerard - Construction in general is a great industry and has many opportunities in many different directions be it commercial, residential or otherwise. My recommendation would be to look at locations with a sustained or consistent work environment that has the best chance of providing that variety and advancement opportunities. As an example, the Washington DC metro area. Robust growth in commercial redevelopment, sprawling suburbs in one of the better "resession proof" economic areas. No doubt the industry has suffered but so has many other. Do your research, make some connections and be willing to work hard and invest th time. Best of luck !

Hi Gerard and thank you for your service!
You live in a hotbed of new construction jobs still going on after Hurricane Sandy. Checks for rebuilding are coming in, so companies are fairly active. From Long Branch to Atlantic City, recovery is still going on. The territory I worked in recovery efforts was southern Ocean, and I am familiar with several good companies there. I understand that New York areas damaged by Sandy are further behind in reconstruction.
Is construction where you want to go, or are you wondering what career you might want to pursue? With the skills you have acquired in the military you may also want to seek out careers that utilize similar skills and align with your interests.
Let me know if I can be of further help, and good luck!
