Federal Resume

Veteran

Jason Elix Killeen , TX

Where can I go and get my federal resume looked at to see if I did it right? I been hearing different ways and I did one on USAjobs and want to make sure it is correct. I copied and pasted it into word so I can work on it more. But I am so lost on it.

Hi Jason-

I am retired after a 40 year career in industry where I hired over 100 people. Now I am helping veterans like yourself by helping with their resumes. If you would e-mail me your resume (drjamesfwatson@gmail.com) I would be happy to comment on it. I also recommend the book "Tired of Eating Peanut and Butter Sandwiches? - Tips to Get a Job Fast" available on Amazon. It contains practical advice. Good luck in your search!!

I know that. I just want to get a base one done and then go from there to add key words in there from the job posting.

There very often is "no right" resume when applying in USA jobs. It is your resume, the application online (question response), and mostly just dumb luck (right place right time). A good resume must match the job description for each job that you apply for, but it must not match the key words in the description exactly (those get tossed out). Remember, the government always takes the laziest way to solve any problem, so this includes they will take the laziest route to hire you, however that may be, make it easy on them.

Do not pay anyone to review your resume, find mentors in local professional organizations that work for the FED to give you advice on your resume. Keep it simple and direct, and customized toward each and every fed job for which you apply.
