Im a Union Carpenter
Answers
You can try reaching out to the Union in your state for Carpentry. In NJ they have Local 84H something like that where they offer training as apprentice for a few months and then send you out to work, you are paid doing your training. After you acquire the necessary certifications you can move up the ladder.
This may not sound good but if you are flexible in where you can live you may want to look for areas of the country where there has been weather events such as tornadoes, hurricanes etc. There is a lot of reconstruction to be done after these and that would mean jobs. Also not sure how it's done but I look on Angie's List for contractors. Best of luck.
hi michael - thank you for your service! If you are willing to work in the chicago area, there is a ton of construction here right now, much of it is residential - though little of it is "stick build". As a carpenter, interior finish-work and cabinetry is in high demand so there are many small developers and GCs that could use those skills.
best of luck!
