Hello everyone,
I am a veteran and currently serving in the Guard... I will be graduating with my bachelors this August, next month, in HR. I have a lot of experience in the HR field from active duty Army and some experience working as a civilian for the Navy. I feel that I have the knowledge, ambition, and drive to learn more.
My question is; I am currently working as an intern, paid, for USACOE and want to seek a higher position. Without the correct knowledge on the civil service side. How can I make myself more open to other HR careers?

Thank you for your feedback. I wanted to work more on trying to get my Masters, but I have to get a position that will pay well. I go to career expos now, to get recognized.
Hello Sgt. Collier. You threw me for a loop with the acronym USACOE. Thank you GOOGLE!! Anyway, I think it is good to make a choice whether you want to work civil service, or work for a civilian corportion. This will help you with how you approach a job oppurtunity.
My mother worked as a civil service specialists for the Air Force for her entire career until retirement. Education (Master Degree) made it possible for her to move up quickly thru the pay grades. My father (retired army) worked civil service for the ARMY at Ft. McPherson. He stalled in his civil service career until he finished Graduate School. Then he rapidly moved up in pay grades and responsibility.
Within my current company, almost all HR associates have some type of graduate degree, and/or they are working on it.
Having a graduate degree helps, and then I would steer you toward networking at all the career functions (career expos) as possible.
