The military service gives all the opportunity to lead in one shape or form. Mentorship is part of this talent developing. Many organizations lack mentor programs. What is the best way to progress with limited resources in some instances? Do most companies have a comparable mentor ir development program to pursue success?

Hi Oscar,
Some organizations will have formal mentoring programs, but I can not speak to those. What I can speak about, from my personal experience, is the informal mentoring that can take place in any organization. I have been fortunate to have several excellent, informal mentors that have helped me grow. And these relationships started with me taking the initiative to stop them and say something like, "I was hoping if I could have some of your time to discuss how to better contribute to the organization and further my career."
From your time in the service, you know that the people that you want to learn from will make time to help guide you. Don't let the lack of a "Mentorship Program" stop you from identifying those people that you want to learn something from, and asking for the time to learn it.
Good luck!

Oscar,
Let me note that Raytheon has an active mentorship program. Raytheon's Global Mentoring program provides mentees and mentors with a platform for collaboration by enabling and facilitating leadership and career development, knowledge sharing, performance improvement and diversity.

Master Sergeant Romero,
I have found that it is rare to have mentorship programs within most companies or if they do have them they tend to be ineffective IMO. Many companies try to achieve some level of unguided mentorship through goals and objectives which tend to be part of an overall employee review system. These programs try to allow you to layout your career path but it really depends on how good your Manager is in putting you on that path. Trying to prepare yourself for being resourceful and self-sufficient is the best advise I can give in this respect. Figure out what you want and be prepared to help your Management chain help you is what I am saying.

Derek
