James Simmons 21 August 2015 Military to Civilian Transition
I can’t say that being a Project Manager was ever a childhood dream of mine. Yet here I am pursuing its formal credential, and hopefully outlining my steps for you to follow as I go.
I originally heard about the PMP from a recruiter at one of the large Junior Military Officer recruiting firms. She casually mentioned that I should get my PMP before I got out. Having no idea what the Project Management Professional certification was, I asked some questions about it and immediately dismissed it as an unattainable goal: the requirement to even sit for the exam was 4500 hours of time leading projects. There was no way I would be able to collect that much experience in my project-tangential job, or so I thought.
