Learn How To Sell Without Selling

Career Exploration

To be successful in sales, people think you need to be a "people person," have a "Type A" personality, be "slick," or have years of "professional sales training." Although all of these qualities may make you a better "sales person," what you really need in sales is the right mindset. The right mindset is a basic understanding that most people don't want to be sold anything. However, people will find a reason to buy what you are selling so long as they relate to you, like you, and/or think that you believe in what you are selling.

My Mother is a retired mutual fund wholesaler. Each and every day, her ONLY job was to meet with financial advisors, share her story about her company's mutual funds, make some sort of personal and/or professional connection, and watch the money roll in. She became one of the most successful wholesalers in the industry NOT because of her extensive knowledge or sales skills, but because of her ability to connect with her customers. When anyone would ask her why she was so good at what she did, she would always reply,"it's not rocket science." What she meant was that selling does not have to be difficult so long as you make an effort to connect with your customer.

The bottom line: anyone can have a successful career in sales. Anyone can learn how to sell anything, and the freedom that comes with a career in sales can be an amazing thing for you and your family.
