I understand there are several options and I am considering pursuing L6S certifications so that I can be more competitive in the job market, however I don't want to be limited to just manufacturing. Is it worth it to pursue a L6S or should I be looking at other certifications that would be more appealing in the job market?

James,
I would recommend researching a few industries and companies that you would like to see yourself in. ArcelorMittal (previous) didn't focus much on L6S nor does Siemens (current) as an indicator of hireability. Moreso I would focus on what you're currently a subject matter expert at and pursue similar avenues so as to take advantage of your military experience. The PMP is a good certification that was recognized at both my previous and current employer and if you meet the qualifications throught the PMI:

I would also pursue a Project Management Professional PMP Certification.
Hi James,
While L6s is widely known as an "Operations" field, in my last 2 companies, L6s spread beyond the walls of Operations. At both Raytheon (previous) and Frito-Lay (current), the L6s philosophy is being spread throughout the company expecting to find efficiencies enterprise-wide. But with that said, Operations still appears to be the most focused on L6s but don't let that keep you away!
