I have been told to become a member of the Chamber of Commerce (if you own a business), become involved in schools (join the PTA board) and to do a lot of volunteer work. Best of luck!

Also consider starting out by running for a spot on your HOA Board (if you live in an HOA that is) or run for city council first.

Attend neighborhood, city, county, etc. meetings. Volunteer on local campaigns. Seek appointments to boards, committees, etc.
