I am about 11 months away from a retirement ceremony from the military. I've been very busy with networking, informational interviewing, etc. I have TAPS class soon, but I have been looking for a good, solid checklist with timelines of things I should knocking out as I ready for transition from the military to civilian life. I feel as though, as much as I am doing, that I am missing things along the way.
Any help is greatly appreciated- Chris

Firstly, let me thank you for your long service.
Transition can be difficult, so you have started in good time to put everything in place. It is not just your career to consider but the impact on your family. It is better to provide you with a few useful links as done by the ACP Provider.

Final advice – don’t get discouraged with rejection – stay positive
Chris:
Congratulations on a long and successful Navy career and also for thinking about the transition process in advance of your retirement. I see you have already received some excellent advice and an offer of assistance . I wanted to emphasize the importance of networking. It’s really the key to a successful transition and one you will be utilizing the rest of your civilian career. Also, there are various organizations like ACP dedicated to assisting veterans in the transition process. Hire Heroes also does an excellent job assisting transitioning veterans. You may want to check out their site .
Also, if you haven’t already done so, I’d recommend subscribing to Military.com’s newsletter . In addition to articles on various military topics they occasionally feature articles from employers actively recruiting veterans . Lastly, I strongly suggest you spend your remaining service time acquiring and or enhancing your computer skills. Knowledge/ expertise in Word, Excel and PowerPoint is of course a requisite for any industry. Lastly, acquiring some familiarity of industry systems like Salesforce would increase your marketability to various industries.
Good luck.
John
