I held a wide variety of jobs during my military career. Most were aviation related or tied to global logistics. I also had some officer professional development roles. After moving back to NY, following retirement, I've had a difficult time selling my "transferrable skills." Potential employers acknowledge that what I have done was significant but since I don't have direct experience in their career specialty, and I'm over 50, there have been few nibbles on the fishing line. In other cases, there's expectation to have certifications/advanced degrees in a particular field (medical, healthcare, etc.) which I don't currently have. At my age, I'm not sure the return on investment would be worth it for a PhD, EdD, or the costlier certifications. Any suggestions?
