Looking for advice on how to break into the Vessel Repair/Construction or the general Maritime sector of BP with focus on Pacific. Perception is that entry at this level is closed off and most are hired within. I have been able to work in Oil and Gas sector overseas for Houston based company but only for contract work due to volatility in the market.

Thank you for your service and your interest in BP. We do have a Shipping division, which employs a mix of employees and contractors, and a mix of vessels (https://www.bp.com/en/global/bp-shipping.html). Owing to COVID-19 we're pretty much at a hiring freeze right now but it will thaw. We're participating with Hiring our Hero’s, ACP and other organizations on virtual career fairs so you may wish to keep tabs on their upcoming events.
I understand we're also in the process of launching a new veteran careers page. This will have a list of open opportunities that closely translate to your experience. When you search our career pages you should see that location information is included in the job postings so that can help you identify roles in areas of interest like the Pacific. You can also set up a search agent that can automatically alert you to jobs of interest.
Hi Antonio! I'm not in HR or recruiting, but the best advice I could provide in your situation is to network with the people you know either within BP or within the industry. You mention that you've worked in oil & gas already for a Houston-based company. If you still have contacts with that company, you could reach out to them. If you're starting fresh, perhaps you could find some contacts through an industry group. Best of luck and thank you for your service.
