What is the general career progression for a Project Manager at BP? Does it start with the base skill, Engineer, Operations Manager, etc, and move from there? or is there another path?
Answers
Hi Mark! I would say across BP there are a lot of opportunities specific to project management and the qualifications would be specific to the role. My suggestion would be to take a look at the careers website and browse job description requirements to get the best idea for required qualifications. In addition, BP is excitingly moving to agile project management approaches which might be something for you to look into (i.e. scrum, Kanban, etc.). These roles are being integrated across BP globally to help us be more efficient and innovative. We also have operational excellence teams across BP which help project manage across businesses especially for new activities to ensure we are safe and compliant in what we do.
Hi Mark, thank you for your service and good question.
Adding to Candace's thoughts, BP has many facets of project managers (PMs) within the organization. We have Agile PMs to help work on breaking apart complex projects into manageable pieces and quickly developing solutions with a strong, cross-functional team. We have PMs that work with contract organizations (e.g. Technip, Worley Parsons, Wood Group, Subsea7, AMEC) to develop specific scopes that support larger projects (e.g. new platform design and construction). We also have PMs that support smaller projects within the organization, but still require defined balance of value management around cost, schedule, quality and compliance.
