After participating in the last BP career event I learned that the Military Placement Program has a limited number of placements annually. Also, the MPP program currently only places cohort participants in BP's Trading sector. In regards to these factors, what other sectors/business units have veterans been successfully onboarded in large numbers? How did their skills, attributes and behaviors make them competitive with hiring managers as compared to their civilian counterparts?
Answers
Hello Terrance, I have seen veterans scattered through many business sectors in BP. I personally know 4 in the Learning and Development organisation. That being said, right now, BP has placed a hiring freeze due to the combination of pandemic, oil prices and internal restructuring. This is both for internal and external roles. I would recommend you check out the link from LinkedIn which highlights skills which are future-proof to increase your opportunities in many industries beside oil and gas. https://blog.linkedin.com/2019/december/10/the-jobs-of-tomorrow-linkedins-2020-emerging-jobs-report
Thank you Victoria for your candid response. I will heed your advice and continue to improve my marketability across many economic sectors.
