I am currently on a four to five month tour of duty in another state. I plan to return home to Connecticut and would like to be welcomed into a new role (ART, government, or civilian) upon my return. Has anyone had success with corresponding with recruiters and employers and securing employment completely remotely? When does communication with recruiters and employers begin? I would like to begin the process as soon as possible.
Update: I was able to find employment! Thank you for your contributions.

Sarah - Jeff is 100% - I recommend my clients to list about 30 - 40 target companies. Then use LinkedIn to make the connection to increase your network and increase % for employment opportunities - do not ask for a job - ask for their counsel and advice. If you do not have a LinkedIn profile, I would advise to make one and also sign up for the free one year premium service as a veteran. you can connect with me on LinkedIn as well. Gary
I think what you’re hoping to do is possible, but it will take effort and would have some dependencies. The first dependency is what your skill set is and what skills and experiences you are offering to a future employer. If you have highly sought after skill set, like cyber security for example, then recruiters would be more willing to start talking to you now. If you have a more common or readily available skill set then recruiter might be less likely.
Then I think you should search out companies in your target industry and target location and try to contact recruiters at those companies. I would also recommend that you search for employees at those same companies in your target career field and ask them for help networking and/or help navigating the recruiting process at that company. You might even ask someone that you connect with to refer you to a job at their company.
Those are my thoughts. I hope that helps. Good luck.
