I was looking into nypd. But it seems they have stopped hiring. I can across a post on LinkedIn for nyc transit police. Anyone have any information on that?

Hi Christopher,
If you are looking to enter law enforcement in New York City, I recommend looking into DOC. They have rolling applications and there is a lot of money to be made with overtime. I must advise you that all these positions are filled through exams. There are some specifics to New York City you should be aware of:
1) There is no "recruitment" per se like in the military. The recruiters sign you up to take the exams. Once you take an exam, there is a wait of a few months before they release the scores and then depending on your score, you enter the process and are hired in that order. Being a police officer somewhere else doesn't help you get hired, except that when you get interviewed by the psychologist it may help.
2) Most of the jobs require you to either live in New York City or one of the adjacent counties (Nassau, Westchester, Rockland etc)
3) The smaller departments (MTA, Port Authority) are much more competitive in recruiting than NYPD for example.
