1st year at Emory Law in Atlanta, looking to find a summer internship in the Atlanta area. My resume is full of aviation and technical skills which has not translated well to a legal internship. I would enjoy the opportunity to work with any size firm, even a solo practice, if I can gain good experience.

Ms. Volpe,
I linked to the site and within minutes found a legal intern position in GE aviation. It looks like preference is given to EU members. I did find it encouraging and will be searching the site more thoroughly when finals end next week. I attempted to translate my resume myself but it still seems to be Greek to anyone that is not an airplane mechanic. I am going to send it to you to see what you think. Thank you for offering me some of your time.
I would love to get involved with patent law. The problem is that to sit for the patent bar you need an Engineering degree or the equivalent credits. I have neither, my undergrad was aviation management. I have considered getting an engineer degree but I am 32 and need to start working after I get my JD. Thank you for the suggestion though. Outside of patent law there does not seem to be much need for an attorney with technical skills.
My experience ranges from information technology to intellectual property and patents.
Hello Jacob,
Have you thought of looking at law offices who are in need of intellectual property expert. With your knowledge of aviation and technical background they might be in need to help translate and find key patents. You could do some research first using Google Patents or other free patent search engines to find key patents and who owns them. This way you could use your knowledge and offer information to key patent attorneys in the Atlanta area and help secure a position.
Jacob - While I'm not in the legal field, I'd be happy to review your resume to see if we might be able to help you translate your aviation/technical skills into skills that a firm might be looking for. If you are interested, please feel free to email me at amanda.volpe@ge.com.
Also, GE has a large presence in the Atlanta area. I'd encourage you to check out the GE site for some potential opportunities: http://www.ge.com/careers/culture/us-veterans.
Thanks,
Amanda
