All,
I need guidance, mentoring, and help. I am trying to build a stronger resume and cover letter because I am trying to progress my career and preparing for a move. My wife and I are working on moving to Renton, Washington in the next year. My resume is lacking something because I am not getting any follow-ups on job applications. My applications have been both internal to my company and external. I would love to stay with my current company but if there are not any opportunities available, I want to stay within the defense industry.
I served 20 years in the Air Force and I spent most of time in Military Personnel (Human Resources). During my career, I worked almost all aspects of Human Resources; recruiting, onboarding, position classifications, retraining, training, safety, pay, benefits, entitlements, employee relations, performance analysis, performance reports, employee redeployment, employee departures, manpower analysis, asset management, and strategic planning.
I left the military in 2012, attended school through 2013 and finally completed my BA in Human Resources Management in 2017. My job hunting after leaving the military has been difficult. I have been able to find work but I have taken the first jobs offered to avoid unemployment. I worked at Progressive Insurance as a Customer Service Representative. My job with Northrop Grumman was as an Administrative Assistant, and my current job with Jacobs Technology is administrative. I am a Product Coordinator, I ensure documents are completed, coordinated, and delivered to the customer within their given scheduled timeline. This entails scheduling, planning, timeline management, coordinating schedule changes with the author, leadership.
Thanks
Joe

Elizabeth,
Thank you for your advice. I have thought about getting my HR certification but was advise against it until I get a job in HR. I have been out of the field for the past 6 years and I am not sure I can get a job in HR.
Thanks Again,
Joe
Hello Joe
You might want to consider obtaining a professional certification like PHR or SHRM-CP. These could be helpful if you are looking to return to HR roles.
PHR : https://www.hrci.org
SHRM-CP : https://www.shrm.org
Good luck
Elizabeth
