Looking for guidence and direction since I'm pretty determined to find a job in security. Though I'm not sure if I'm taking the right steps. Studying for the CompTIA + Security test now and started some courses at the Federal Virtual Training Environment online. And now tying to figure a way to do the IBM i2 Analyst's Notebook Training, thinking that might be good to have even though the next class is about 3 hours away. Or should I be doing cources in CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network + or Cisco? Wondering if taking course would help or are companies actually looking for that certificate. I'm more leaning on the certificate. Just don't know what direction would be best. Thanks.

No Kevin, don't have a background in security. That's what I'm working towards, hopefully.
Hi Richard,
Do you have background in cyber security? I work with some of our security solutions here at VZ. I know we have hired folks with CISSP and CEH certs, but there are many others available. SDWAN is a big growth area for us and has a virtualized security piece with it.
Hi Richard,
While I don't have any specific Advisors in mind for you to reach out to, I would suggest that you set a filterable search for IT (expertise) and someone who is established (6-10 years of work experience).
Beyond that, I would encourage you to cast your net wide, and reach out to numerous advisors to gather their perspectives and feedback. There's no limit to how many you can reach out to!
Feel free to message me directly, and I'd be happy to walk through any additional ideas with you!
Best,
-Bernard.
Thanks for the information. Do you have someone tat you would recommend that I can talk to?
Hi Richard,
Thank you for your service and for posting your question!
I would highly recommend utilizing our Community Feature and reaching out directly to Advisors who have experience in IT Security. Speaking to Advisors who have direct experience in the field that you’re hoping to break into will be invaluable, as they can provide an informed perspective on the certifications, degrees and skill-sets that are needed to pursue a career in IT Security.
In addition, I would also encourage you to take a look at the following resources:
https://military.microsoft.com/programs/mssa/
https://www.cyberdegrees.org/
https://www.edx.org/learn/cybersecurity
I hope this is helpful, and please feel free to reach out if you’d like a more in depth tour of ACP AdvisorNet, I’d be happy to schedule one with you.
Thanks again!
Best,
-Bernard.
